All mandatory equipment will be checked when registering before the race. To start you must be able to show all equipment on the list.
During the race we will check mandatory equipment. All for your own safety. |
Mandatory individual equipment (to be carried all the time).
- mountainbike (proper brakes);
- cycling helmet;
- white frontlight (headlight also approved) and red rear light (when cycling);
- (head)light
- spare batteries sufficient for 1 (CHALLENGER) or 2 (PRO) nights;
- breaklight, (any color will do);
- survival blanket;
- waterproof jacket;
- warm long sleeved shirt;
- food and water (minimum 2 liters);
- insurance card;
- ID-card (e.g. passport).
Mandatory team equipment (to be carried all the time):
- mobile phone (including emergency numbers of organization);
- medical kit containing:
- 1x bandage (min. 7cm x 200 cm);
- 1x gauze to cover wounds (min. 8 x 8 cm);
- 2x adhesive plaster;
- 1x compass.
Mandatory team gearbag (to be handed in before the race):
- 1 large backpack (not provided by the organization). The PRO teams must be able to use the backpack as a backpack;
- the backpack must contain:
- 2 neoprene wetsuits/swimming suits.
REMARK: the swimming water is approx.13°-14°; Swimming might be slower than usual because of carrying some equipment. So for all teams we advise a long wetsuit or swimming suit. This will be more comfortable, depending on the weather conditions. However, we have decided all teams can decide to wear shorties (short sleeves and legs) at own risk;
- 2 emergancy whistles - must work when wet!(you must be able to attatch the whistle to to your wrist to have at hand in emergancy situations);
- waterproof bag for part of mandatory equipment (cell phone, medical kit)+
- CHALLENGER teams: 2 extra breaklights (you must be able to attatch the breaklight to your wrist using tape or rubberbands. The breaklight will broken before entering the water).
Advice:
- watertight mapholder (tip: cut out swimming sections, leave rest of racemap at transition area in case it gets wet);
- extra running shoes (for swim&run);
- small light backpack (for swim&run);
- extra food, clothing etc. (your own choice);
- towel;
- body cream or oil to protect skin from cold;
- (self inflatable) life-vest. It might slow you down a bit but if you doubt your swimming skills
or are happy to have a back-up at hand take one or two life-vests with you during the section);
- you are allowed to use some kind of floating device (i.g. matrass) and fins as long as it all fits in your backpack/gearbag.
Note (PRO teams only):
This big gearbag-backpack, and all that you have stuffed in it, will have to be carried by bicycle from this Transition Area to the next Transition Area.
The distance is approx. 20 km, of which 50% on foot. (with your bicycle and backpacks). So keep the backpack as light as possible, the wet suits will add more weight to your challenge.
The good thing is it means you will have acces to your gearbag four times (2 Transition area's) during the race. It's pure luxury but you have to work hard for it.
